Tony Robbins Insight & Tips...

Writer: Nichole RamseyNichole Ramsey

I recently attended Tony Robbins' Unleash the Power Within (UPW) event in Los Angeles. I documented parts of my experience on Instagram and received a lot of feedback and questions! So I thought it'd be a good idea to write a blog detailing my tips for making the most of the Tony Robbins experience...

1. The first rule of any Tony Robbins event.... Do not sit with the people you came with.

I know what you’re thinking, “I’m already going to be uncomfortable enough, now I have to sit with complete strangers!?” Hear me out… You are SUPPOSED to be uncomfortable. Additionally, no matter how self-confident you are, dancing, jumping and screaming for hours on end is waaaaayyyy easier when you aren’t around people who actually know you and know that this behavior isn’t part of your typical personality. A Tony Robbins event isn’t as much about the intellectual content as it is about the experience and you will be more likely to fully engage in the experience when you’re flying solo.

2. Where you sit matters, but not in the way you may think.

When you purchase your ticket to Unleash the Power Within, you will select your seating section preference and the closer your section is to the stage, the more expensive your ticket will be. We purchased VIP tickets to be closer to the front but I don’t think this was really necessary. If I did it again, I would be happy with Executive level tickets and here's why...

When you arrive at the event each day, seats are first come, first serve based on whatever section you chose. It is natural to want to choose a seat that is close to the front and as central as possible within your section and I strongly advise against this. The reality is that everyone will be standing/dancing/jumping 80% of the time and you will be mostly watching the massive screens all around you and not looking at the stage. Additionally, Tony is super human and rarely gives breaks so chances are you will need to leave multiple times throughout the event to use the restroom, refill your water bottle, get food or call home. This is much harder and definitely more awkward to do when you are in the center of the venue. Choose an aisle seat at the edge so you can be close to an exit! I promise you will be happy you did.

3. Don’t rush to be the first in line at the beginning of the day.

As a rule follower and someone who arrives early to EV-ER-Y-THAAAANG, I made this mistake on the first day. There were 15,000 people at UPW in LA. Day 1 was intended to be a “half” day, starting at 12:00pm but the doors opened at 9:00am and I desperately wanted to ensure I got an aisle seat due to my excessive need to pee. I arrived at 8:30am to stand in line, where I remained for the next hour. Once inside, I found my aisle seat and then proceeded to sit it in for no less than 3 and half hours while I waited for the event, which didn’t actually start until 1:00pm.

The plus side of this: I listed to almost half of Rachel Hollis' new book: Girl, Stop Apologizing while I waited.

The downside: I had consumed most of my snacks before the event even started and this particular day included zero breaks and did not end until 1:00am.

4. Protect your energy!

After the 17-hour day that was day 1, we decided we would not be arriving early and waiting in line again. We arrived for the remaining days 1-2 hours after the “scheduled” start time and found that we rarely missed anything by doing so. Additionally, even with arriving late, I was able to secure my aisle seat to the far right side, every. single. day.

5. Drink the Kool-aid.

Remember when I said that Tony Robbins Events are less about the intellectual content and more about the experience? I believe that everything Tony does and asks you to do is for a reason. He is extremely scientific and believes strongly in the power of your physiology and ingraining information into your nervous system. You won’t always understand it, there will be moments where you think to yourself “this is dumb” but DRINK THE KOOL-AID. You didn’t spend all this money and give up a weekend of your life to half ass it. If you go into it with the mindset that you’re going to learn to get comfortable with being uncomfortable and you truly go out all out, you will have a life changing experience.
